Nasser Kandil wrote: Egypt and the self-distancing

  • As soon as the elected US President Donald Trump announced his call to Washington to use veto against the Egyptian draft resolution which is presented to the Security Council for condemning the Israeli settlement, Egypt decided to withdraw its draft project from circulation.
  • Other countries have adopted the project in a disgraceful way for Egypt, since there are no Arab countries.
  • There was a voting, the project succeeded and became a resolution, but neither Washington, nor London, no Paris made veto to fall it.
  • It was an embarrassing and a shameful position for Egypt.
  • This was in order to make Palestine wins and Israel loses, while Egypt which is the owner of the project is standing in the ranks of losers.
  • Egypt decided to adopt the policy of self-distancing fearing from a dispute even wordy with Washington, even if the title was Palestine, it is a dispute that will occur surely between any Arab country that is just to the rights and any US administration no matter how friendly it is.
  • Measuring the positions toward Palestine with measuring the US satisfaction is the worst compass.
  • It is nonsense to say that the decision is without practical value, otherwise why Egypt has proposed it
  • What is important is that there is not among the allies of Israel who dared to protect it, as what Russia and China have done with Syria.
