Nasser Kandil wrote: Press’s crisis

  • There is too much talk about the exposure of the Lebanese newspapers to the danger of closing, the reason is due to three transformations; first, the advertising market became for the televisions. Second, the sale’s market is no more viable at the time of the internet, Third, the political financial flows are constantly diminished at the time of the political Gulf crisis which is politically exhausting for whom is following it and insufficient for those who depend on it.
  • The Lebanese press is an Arab tribune and a feature of the presence of freedoms and the participation of the public opinion in politics, despite the crisis of culture and the intellectuals; it is still representing a kind of collective cross– sectarian conscience to form a kind of balance between the authorities.
  • The country is involved in helping despite the bad financial situation, it is known that the grants are substituted with a group of exemptions from the charges of importing the paper, exempting the employers of the newspapers from the charges of social security, exempting the printing establishments from the ratio of the electricity bills, and the journalists from the ratio of the allowance of the telephone services and improving the conditions of promoting the advertisements of banks, companies, real estates, tenders, furthermore giving the newspapers free privileges for the distribution of media and advertising services on the cell phone and other.
  • The question is for the owners of the newspapers as long as they are institutions of public affair; why are not they presented for the public offering which has saved major global newspapers?
