Nasser Kandil wrote: Al Jubeir and the Iraqi cooperation with Syria

  • The visit of the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir to Baghdad has many goals.
  • The visit was due to US decision, in order to make the allies normalize their relations with the Iraqi government where the Americans are present, and not to accept that their allies wage side battles that make them lose the political cover which they need, as well as the efforts for embracing the Iraqi-Iranian relations in the presence of Washington’s allies and their allies in the Iraqi equation.
  • The visit was an attempt to clone the Saudi experience with Lebanon to Iraq, where Saudi Arabia and Turkey experienced the policy of hostility, but these two countries decided to have an openness hoping to turn it into an element of temptation and effect and in worst cases to prevent being absent which will lead to losses, so the visit of Al-Jubeir completes the visit of Binali Yildirim.
  • Contrary to the Lebanese situation and the stability of the General Michael Aoun on making use of the electoral competition which started before a year of the date of the elections, where the Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi confronts Nour Al-Maliki, the Saudis are betting on making Al-Abadi, Iyad Allawi number two.
  • The visit of Al-Jubeir is a message that is related to the Iraqi cooperation with Syria in the raid against ISIS sites in Boukamal, and an alternative proposal through the partnership of Saudi Arabia in the international coalition.
