Nasser Kandil wrote: For those who wonder about the Israeli position towards the resignation

  • The Jerusalem Post Newspaper saw in its editorial that "the resignation of the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri is a sign of pessimism, because the relative stability which Israel enjoyed in the north may not last long".
  • The Israelis explained the resignation with a "Saudi hope that Hezbollah gets stuck in the blame and the responsibility in dealing with issues as the economic recession in Lebanon and taking care of one million Syrian refugees".
  • The Israelis see that the resignation was “a result of the awareness of the Saudis of their failure in affecting the path of the Lebanese politics through the Prime Minister, In fact the damage was more than the benefit from the current political stability, but affecting the Lebanese politics has more advantages according to the Saudis”.
  • The Israelis think that "the resignation is an example of the meeting of the interests of Israel with Saudi Arabia, the other Gulf countries, Egypt, and Jordan against the Iranian influence. So Israel has to make every effort to make use of this situation”.
  • The Israelis concluded their position by saying that "whatever the reasons of the timing of the resignation were, Israel has to be keen not to get involved into a military confrontation that does not serve its interests. The resignation of Al-Hariri indicates to a new era of the instability in the north".
