Nasser Kandil wrote: Moscow did not agree vainly

  • In the previous times, in every truce in Syria, Moscow was in the state of weakness, defending, and the justification of the position of its ally. Although it agreed on the truce, but it knew in advance that it is an opportunity for the enemies of Syria to organize and to get ready.
  • This time seems different from the beginning, Moscow is talking while the others are listening, it put an executive clear schedule for the truce, as a completion of the military resolving plan in Ghouta and a way to exert pressure on the opponent forces of the Syrian country and to embarrass them with difficult barters.
  • Russia put a field framework for the truce that is in conformity with the plan of the Syrian army in Ghouta but with exclusion of Al Nusra and who is with it, it stopped the continuation of the military action on one hand, and it determined the truce in five hours a day through safe corridors for the exit of the civilians according to the equation either the militants come out or the civilians to achieve the protection of the civilians as a goal of the truce.
  • In contrast, Moscow put the equation “aids and blockade of Ghouta versus Fouaa and Kafriya” according to the statement of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as the ceasing fire in Afrin according to what the French President had notified the Turkish President after his talking with the Russian President that Afrin is a part of the UN resolution.
  • The gains which the Kurds will get from the truce are Syrian-Russian ones after the Americans have abandoned them; it is the beginning of a process run by Moscow.
  • These are the results of the shifts in the military balances and the political calculations.
