Nasser Kandil wrote: Geir Pedersen’s visit to Damascus

The new special UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen will be in Damascus within few days,
he is the veteran diplomat who has in his records what is enough to pay attention to what
is awaiting him in order not to fail as his predecessors.
 Pedersen adopts as his predecessors the US options; he occupied the position of the UN
envoy to Lebanon before the War of July 2006, due to his sponsorship of Oslo Accords
between the occupation entity and the Palestinian Liberation Organization as a
representative of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry which he is a member of its diplomatic
corps.
 Pedersen has to know well the reasons of failure of his predecessors, especially their fall
in the bets of affecting the Syrian country, the attempts of blackmailing, and the illusion
of the ability to engage in the game of being smart enough with the Syrian diplomacy.
Kofi Anan discovered late that he was mere a façade for arming the terrorist groups in the
game of cease-fire, Al Akhdar Al-Ibrahimi spent years waiting to subdue the Syrian
President to the threats to accept to step down, while De Mistura had made every efforts
to launch a political process that makes Syria under federal or sectarian example.
 There is one condition that must be understood by Pedersen; there are no consolation
awards in Syria, in other words, no abandonment of the sovereignty of Syria or its unity
or its civilian aspect under the title of facilitating the political process, since the only
place for the political process is to adopt a democratic process that leads to institutions, as
well as a diplomatic seeking to lift the sanctions and restoring the relations between Syria
and the world.
