If we put aside what will the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo say to the Lebanese
as demands and calls for the internal strife under the slogan of confronting Hezbollah,
and we move to the Lebanese sovereignty in the airspace which is violated by Israel
thousands of times annually and to the occupied Shebaa Farms and the maritime
sovereignty over gas and oil, what does Lebanon expect to hear?
The announcement of the US President Donald Trump of the American recognition
of the Israeli sovereignty over Golan and the repetition of that by his Secretary of
State while he shakes hands with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tells
Lebanon a lot of things compared with what will be reported by Pompeo.
As long as there is no value of the international law in demarcating the borders of
sovereignty and as long as the only law which Washington believes in is the Israeli
hopes and ambitions which are entitled security needs and strategic interests as
Trump describes the inclusion of Golan to Israel, then Shebaa Farms, the Lebanese
airspace, and the water which is rich in gas and oil are just titles of Israeli interests
that Washington will not abandon even if they are illegal aggressive interests.
The issue is not related to America which announced publicly that it supports Israel
from Jerusalem to Golan; the problem is related to the Arabs. Lebanon will be in
front of a crucial moment, it has to announce clearly that it is ready to adventure with
the relation with the superpower versus its sticking to its sovereignty, because this
superpower does not consider the standards of law and sovereignty and it is ready to
sacrifice with the interests and the rights of the countries for the sake of Israel.
Those who want to defend sovereignty let them say that they disagreed with Pompeo
because they stick to the Lebanese sovereignty instead of promoting the matter as the
defense of Hezbollah. Hezbollah knows how to defend itself.
